Wellbutrin for ADHD: when bupropion makes sense for adults. Here are three things to know. Bupropion, sold as Wellbutrin, is an antidepressant that affects dopamine and norepinephrine, two brain chemicals involved in attention. It is not FDA-approved for ADHD, but it is sometimes used off-label for adults, especially when depression is also present. Studies show a modest benefit for adult ADHD symptoms, smaller than with stimulants. Its strength is treating two conditions with one medicine: depression and ADHD, or depression and smoking. It may also suit adults who prefer to avoid stimulants, or who had sexual side effects from SSRI antidepressants. Bupropion lowers the seizure threshold. People with a seizure disorder, an eating disorder such as bulimia or anorexia, or who are stopping alcohol or sedatives abruptly should avoid it. Common side effects include insomnia, dry mouth, headache, jitteriness and lower appetite. Read the full article at hopeintegrativemed.com. If you are in crisis, call or text 988.
