7-OH and Kratom Addiction Treatment in South Carolina
Medication-assisted treatment for 7-OH and kratom dependence, with telehealth visits for adults across South Carolina.
Why 7-OH Addiction Is Serious
7-hydroxymitragynine is a potent opioid receptor agonist — far more potent than the original mitragynine in kratom leaves. It acts on the same mu-opioid receptors as prescription opioids, creating physical dependence that closely mirrors opioid use disorder. Withdrawal from 7-OH typically includes severe muscle aches, nausea, diarrhea, insomnia, anxiety, and intense cravings. Without medical support, withdrawal peaks at 48 to 72 hours and is the period when most people relapse.
Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) for 7-OH and Kratom
Buprenorphine (Suboxone) is the treatment with the most clinical experience for 7-OH and kratom dependence, though the evidence so far comes mainly from case reports and case series. Because buprenorphine acts on the same opioid receptors as 7-OH, it dramatically reduces withdrawal severity and suppresses cravings, allowing patients to stabilize and focus on recovery. Multiple published case reports document successful treatment of kratom and 7-OH dependence using buprenorphine-based protocols.
An initial evaluation determines whether telehealth-based MAT is appropriate for your situation. Our providers have experience managing opioid-like addictions and will tailor your treatment plan to your history, current use, and any co-occurring conditions including anxiety, depression, or chronic pain that may have driven initial use.
How Monitoring Works
Your clinical appointments are fully virtual. For monitoring, we work with each patient to find the most convenient local arrangement — some coordinate urine drug screens and vitals through their existing primary care or family medicine provider, others use a nearby certified lab location.
What to Expect at Hope Integrative Medicine
- Confidential evaluation: We assess your use history, withdrawal pattern, and any co-occurring medical or mental health conditions.
- Individualized treatment plan: Treatment is tailored to your specific needs and recovery goals.
- MAT induction and monitoring: We start you on buprenorphine at an appropriate dose and monitor progress through follow-up visits.
- Local lab monitoring: Urine drug screens at a lab of your choice, vitals locally.
- Non-judgmental care: Addiction is a medical condition, not a moral failing. We treat every patient with dignity and respect.
Prescriptions and Safety
At a stable prescribed dose, buprenorphine does not cause a high, and its overdose risk is much lower than illicit opioids. It can still be dangerous with alcohol, benzodiazepines or other sedatives, and it must be locked away from children.
If someone who took 7-OH or kratom is very drowsy, hard to wake or breathing slowly, call 911 and give naloxone. For milder symptoms or questions, call Poison Control at 1-800-222-1222.
Telehealth visits are evaluation and management visits. A prescription can be part of your treatment when your provider, using professional judgment and deciding together with you after weighing the risks and benefits, finds it medically necessary. Whether you are seen in person in West Ashley or by telehealth, prescriptions are sent electronically to your pharmacy.
Hope Integrative Medicine is not an emergency service. In a crisis, call or text 988; for a medical emergency or overdose, call 911.

Frequently Asked Questions
South Carolina's Kratom Consumer Protection Act, signed in May 2025, prohibits the sale of kratom products containing more than 2% 7-hydroxymitragynine, effectively banning high-concentration 7-OH products. Enforcement is still developing. If you have become dependent on these products, Hope Integrative Medicine can help regardless of legal status.
Yes. Buprenorphine (Suboxone) acts on the same opioid receptors as 7-hydroxymitragynine, making it effective for managing 7-OH and kratom withdrawal and cravings. Multiple published case reports document successful treatment of kratom and 7-OH dependence using buprenorphine-based protocols.
Withdrawal from 7-OH kratom typically mirrors opioid withdrawal: acute symptoms including muscle aches, nausea, diarrhea, insomnia, and cravings peak at 48 to 72 hours and gradually improve over one to two weeks. Post-acute withdrawal symptoms can persist for weeks. Buprenorphine-based MAT dramatically reduces withdrawal severity and relapse risk during this period.
We work with each patient to identify the most convenient local monitoring arrangement. Some patients coordinate through their existing primary care or family medicine provider — others prefer a standalone a certified lab location. Not all primary care practices participate in MAT monitoring, and we understand that — we will help find the right fit for your situation. Clinical appointments remain virtual.
No. Buprenorphine is a medical treatment prescribed and monitored by licensed physicians at stable therapeutic doses that do not cause a high. Its overdose risk is much lower than illicit opioids, but it can still be dangerous with alcohol, benzodiazepines or other sedatives, and it must be locked away from children. Research consistently shows MAT significantly improves recovery outcomes compared to detox alone. The goal is always to stabilize the patient and — when appropriate — taper off medication over time.
