Blood pressure screening: who should be checked and how often. Here are three things to know. The U.S. Preventive Services Task Force recommends blood pressure screening for adults 18 and older who have not been diagnosed with high blood pressure. It gives this recommendation a Grade A. How often depends on your age and risk. Yearly screening is suggested at 40 and older, and for adults at increased risk. Adults 18 to 39 who are not at increased risk, and had a normal reading before, can be screened every 3 to 5 years. Adults at increased risk include Black adults, people with high-normal blood pressure, and people with overweight or obesity. Older age, family history, tobacco use, too little activity and a diet high in sodium also raise risk.
