What Anxiety Treatment Looks Like Through Telehealth
Your first appointment is a comprehensive clinical evaluation, typically 45 to 60 minutes. Your provider reviews your history, current symptoms, prior treatments, and the impact anxiety is having on your daily life. This evaluation informs the treatment approach.
For many patients, treatment involves medication management with non-controlled medications such as SSRIs or SNRIs — effective first-line treatments for anxiety that can be prescribed via telehealth in South Carolina.
Our approach is integrative — we consider sleep quality, exercise, nutrition, caffeine, alcohol, and other lifestyle factors that substantially influence anxiety alongside medication when it is indicated.
What the Research Says About Telehealth for Anxiety
Multiple clinical trials have found that telehealth delivery of psychiatric evaluation and medication management for anxiety is equivalent in effectiveness to in-person care. The American Psychiatric Association and the Anxiety and Depression Association of America both recognize telehealth as a standard mode of care for anxiety disorders.
Prescriptions and Safety
Telehealth visits are evaluation and management visits. A prescription can be part of your treatment when your provider, using professional judgment and deciding together with you after weighing the risks and benefits, finds it medically necessary. Whether you are seen in person in West Ashley or by telehealth, prescriptions are sent electronically to your pharmacy.

Frequently Asked Questions
Non-controlled medications including SSRIs (sertraline, escitalopram, fluoxetine) and SNRIs (venlafaxine, duloxetine) are effective first-line anxiety treatments that can be prescribed via telehealth in South Carolina following a proper evaluation. Controlled substances such as benzodiazepines are subject to different federal telehealth prescribing rules.
Generalized anxiety disorder (GAD) involves persistent, excessive worry about multiple areas of life that is difficult to control. Panic disorder involves recurrent, unexpected panic attacks — sudden surges of intense fear with physical symptoms — and the anxiety of having more attacks. Both are treatable and commonly co-occur. Hope Integrative Medicine evaluates and treats both conditions.
